What Is Osteopathy and how is it different to Chiropractics and Physiotherapy?

The simple answer to this is that from the Patients point of view very little. Osteopathy is a combination of manual therapies including soft tissue massage, Manipulation (cracking), articulation (rythmic movements of limbs and the spine), we will also use electrotherapies like ultrasound etc, we prescribe exercises and help educate you about your problems and teach you to manage them effectively. Osteopaths are also a Profession recognised by the State with the privilage granted by The government Under the Osteopaths Act to self regulate and it is illegal to advertise yourself as an Osteopath without having the proper qualifications. Like medical Doctors and Dentists the title of Osteopath is protected by law.

Physiotherapy is a subset of medicine and they are there to rehabilitate patients after serious trauma and medical intervention. They tend to use electrotherapy and prescrption of exercises they can also with further training use manual technique of a sort. They usually operate under the instructions of Medical Doctors and or Consultants. The title physiotherapist is not protected by Law.
