You do not have to suffer back pain during pregnancy. The first trimester
is difficult due to the body making the physiological adaptations to being
pregnant. The early morning sickness!!! Second trimester can be a good
time just to have a check up with the osteopath to ensure the spine and
pelvis are aligned and supple to cope with the delivery. The third trimester
is when you will most probably have need of osteopathy and the natural
increase in body weight and changed spinal curves load the system.
It is relatively simple and very safe to treat pregnant ladies at this
stage, with really satisfactory results. After giving birth and when the
soreness has gone get checked again to ensure your pelvis and spine have
realigned and will strengthen back healthily. I would say 80% of my female
patients reporting with back pain can trace it back to pregnancy or an
incident during nursing. Once the underlying mechanic is functioning well
then we start you with Pilates to restore your core tone and strength.
