The question " What can I do to help my own back?" is frequently asked and the simple answer is Pilates.
A word of warning is that you must seek out a properly qualified instructor who really understands the positioning of the pelvis and the lumbar spine "Neutral Spine" in Pilates talk. Once I am satisfied that the underlying mechanics of your back allow you to adopt a good neutral spine position then you can start with the Active exercise which is designed to improve your sense of where your back "is".
The exercise will improve your strength, control and flexibilty and also flatten your stomach which will please you asthetically. I have an excellent instructor to whom I refer my patients to after we have completed the initial phases of treatment. I will also prescribe core stability exercises to you as part of the work up to this point.
